Two in the Bush...

Or I suppose I should say in the dirt... either way, after almost an entire month, we have finally got around to completing our mini-boxwood hedge project.  We bought four little boxwoods back in the beginning of March (along with two Manhattan euonymus and a bunch of bright little pansies) and in all the excitement of our first plantings, two boxwoods never made it in the ground.

All the homeless bushes hanging out together.
John's mom came for a visit that weekend and the poor guys had to sit in their little pots and dream of one day being able to stretch out their roots.  Don't you just hate those projects you so enthusiastically start, but for one reason or another, they just get drawn out forever?  That seems to happen to us a lot... When they started to look like they just couldn't take another day of pot purgatory, John finally went out and dug the holes on the other side of our walkway... and then I think it rained for a couple days, so we were just left with two holes, which I enjoyed walking by and always pretending to fall into.  Luckily, karma was kind and I never actually did fall into them.  Finally, we were blessed with a rain-free day, so into the holes they went.  Our walkway is now balanced and our future hedge is in process.

With alternating bright and sunny days and rainy days, the boxwoods have actually shown signs of new growth.  I can just see a perfectly trimmed hedge lining our walkway now.  Who knows?  Maybe we'll get adventurous and craft some cat and dog shaped bushes (no we won't).

Oh, and we planted the euonymus... euonymuses?  euonymi?  euonymice?  The other two bushes.  There was a lengthy debate on where they would call home, but in the end, we decided to stick them over by the office addition.
My sketch of the bush layout for John... since we don't have awesome 3D imaging junk like they do on TV... and why do those things always make chirping noises?  When has a computer ever made chirping noises whilst processing data like that?
To plant these guys, we used much more Leafgro and planting mix instead of mixing in our wretched clay.  We just stirred it all up in our wheelbarrow, shoveled some in the holes, stuck in the bushes, and filled up the rest of the hole.  So far, so good.

And you know that buy-a-new-car-and-then-you-see-it-everywhere phenomenom?  Well, ever since we discovered Manhattan euonymice, we've seen them everywhere!  To our delight, they always look awesome.  Just big ol' bright green bushes that really do form a lovely informal hedge.  Hopefully one day ours will grow big and strong and we'll have all sorts of bush hedges.  Right now, we're just enjoying watching our little guys grow.  They're like our little bush children.  Like children of the corn, but less creepy and murdery... I hope...
